paintings

Throughout history, in so many places on earth, mountains have been associated with mysteries.

I attempt to capture that mystery in my landscapes. I do not paint an exact likeness of nature, but intend to bring out the essence and "feel" of nature in my paintings. I do that by using the age-old traditional techniques of Oriental brush painting.

The paintings are done on different kinds of "washi" (rice paper), which I buy in Japan. Many papers have a distinct fiber in them that gives the image an almost three-dimensional feeling. I use watercolor and black ink to create these paintings; in some of them, I add sheets of 24-karat gold leaf to enrich the image.

While paintings shown here may already be sold, similar themes are available. Reproductions of some paintings are available in limited edition prints. Sizes ranges are 20"x32", 22"x28", 21"x29" and 12"x24".
